Whether you’re building a brand from scratch or working with one that has lost its way, what it stands for is every bit as important as how it looks. And it all starts with brand naming, which matters a whole lot more than most people think.
Brand naming is HARD. And soooooooo subjective. Words are fickle and resonance is personal. Add to that, more than 700,000 new domains are registered every single week. That’s 36.4 million unique URLs per year. To put that into context, there are only 270,000 words in the English dictionary. The first 237 names you think of are probably already taken. But worry not, we can help.
As an award-winning brand naming and creation agency, we start where most don’t. Long before the fun stuff, we ask uncomfortable questions. What are you actually building? Why should anyone care? And what makes it commercially viable, not just creatively interesting?
Of course, we called ourselves Sergeant Walnuts. You’re going to have to trust us on this.
Whether you need a name, an identity, or both - we’d love to hear what you’re building.

Most agencies separate strategy from creative. We don’t. They go hand-in-hand, like Ant and Dec. One without the other just isn’t as good.
As brand positioning experts based in Manchester but working with businesses all over the world, people come to us when they want a brand that won’t blend into the background. We spend time getting under the skin of your category, your audience and your offer.
That way, when it’s time to name a brand, product or service, inspiration can come from a pertinent place. And, as brand-naming specialists, we believe it’s our job to delve where others won’t, into the weirdly wonderful world of language and meaning. Of course, we should never underestimate alluring alliteration and assuasive assonance. And rhyme is fine, most of the time. But there are other, more technical, tools in our writing arsenal, and we’ve even developed a Highly Effective Super-Secret Naming Process, which we’ve called Jeff.
Sometimes people come to us as a brand naming consultant. Sometimes they need a product naming agency for a new line, service or sub-brand. Often, they need the whole thing built from scratch. We’re happy to help with it all.
We can help.
Oddy Knocky was a term we found in the depths of lateral research. It comes from Nadsat, the fictional slang in A Clockwork Orange, meaning to go on one’s own or be independent. From there, we built the full brand world: identity, packaging, website and comms for a coffee brand made to go its own way. Of course, we called ourselves Sergeant Walnuts. You’re going to have to trust us on this.
Rising Tide was previously Enabl AI. We created a new name that reflected both what the business does and how it does it. With a nod to AI’s rapid growth and the team’s desire to lift their clients up through the adoption and effective implementation of innovative technology, ‘Rising Tide’ was born.
The dual meaning of ‘Still Human’ gave us the perfect name to convey how teachers go above and beyond, frequently pushed to their limits, serving others in incredible ways, but often at the expense of their own wellbeing. They’re in need of a well-deserved time out. Superhuman, maybe. But ‘Still Human’ nonetheless.
